POLYMERS IN CARBON FIBER MOULDED BY COMPRESSION: AESTHETICS IN ADDITION TO MECHANICAL PROPERTIESS

A process that makes it possible to obtain a moulded piece with the classic superficial appearance

Carbon fiber is frequently used to reinforce compound materials and plastic polymers, and also has an aesthetic appearance that is decisively appreciated on the market: the exterior appearance with the well-known texture.

It has always been impossible to enjoy the advantages of lower processing costs of moulding and to obtain at the same time a piece in carbon fiber with an aesthetic appearance that rivals pieces obtained through lamination. In fact, there are many products on the market that simulate the appearance of carbon fiber thanks to various painting techniques.

Today, for many geometries, we are able to supply pieces moulded in carbon fiber that maintain the classic aesthetic appearance.

The characteristic texture of carbon fiber without subsequent refinishing after moulding

We confronted and resolved many “surface” limits that could not be surpassed in the item with the qualifying aesthetic texture, which, as previously stated, represents a very important emotional factor in industrial design objects and beyond. We initially tested and subsequently implemented both carbon fiber and glass fiber in various applications, obtaining compression moulded items (not laminated) with the appearance of the typical exterior texture.

We did all of this without any processing or interventions subsequent to moulding, but through the use of fabrics that were previously soaked in carbon, which following the perfect plastic coating using the aforesaid material, permits transferring the tradition aspect to the finished product.

A WORD ABOUT PRODUCTION COSTS

From an economic standpoint this all makes our processes extremely competitive in respect to lamination of fabrics in carbon with autoclave processing and the technology is suitable for standard production in the case of repetitive lots.
